2011 Nantucket Christmas Stroll Report — The 2011 Nantucket Christmas Stroll, from a weather perspective, was somewhat mild. Temps were in the 40's and 50's Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Nantucket "Find Your Twin And Win" game was again missing. In fact the people running the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce table didn't even know what the game is. Rumors swirling around this stroll were that Arno's was closing for good after the stroll. Sadly, this appears to be true. The Pearl/Boarding House and Easy Street were also rumored to be closing but we were NOT able to confirm this. Let's hope the Pearl stays open. It's a great place.

Friday Evening Photos
Friday afternoon and evening were cloudy and cool with a light wind resulting in an uneventful ride over on the high speed ferry Iyanough. The ride would have been on the Hy-line's Grey Lady but the 3:15 departure time didn't work. Below is the Friday evening sunset.

Saturday
Saturday morning brought clouds and temperatures in the forties. By midday there was partial sun with temps in the fifties. Joe Zito was the only person observed in shorts. Just about everyone was wearing a coat (except Joe).

Sunday
Sunday the temperatures were there warmest of the weekend. Early in the morning the Steamship Authority M/V Eagle ran into the freight boat Sankaty while departing Hyannis. The resulting collision tore a three foot hole in the hull of the Eagle. Several trips were canceled leaving many unhappy travelers on Nantucket. Around noon people started to line up to get on the freight boat Sankaty which was dispatched in lieu of the Eagle. A repair patch was welded on to the Eagle which resumed trips later in the day. This was all after the Steamship's high speed ferry Iyanough was hit by a rogue wave earlier in the week. The wave destroyed the front luggage compartment door. It took several days to be repaired. The photo below is the midday line for the freight boat Sankaty.
